Manana means “from the heart,” and expresses when someone plays with feeling and passion.
Manana is a Latin jazz quintet based in Gothenburg. The blend of jazz and the syncopation of Cuban clave is the perfect potion that Manana uses to captivate the audience.
About Manana
Manana was born from a curiosity and love for jazz, latin american music, and caribbean rhythms. The band’s repertoire is based on original compositions and classic jazz standards reinterpreted by Manana.
When rearranging songs, we always consider rhythm and syncopated bass lines to convey the Latin swing. The combination of jazz with the Cuban clave creates a powerful experience for the listener.
Our goal is to create an atmosphere of musical reciprocity by blending musical genres and cultures.
In this way, we aim to further expand the Latin jazz scene in Gothenburg!Historical Overview
In 2019, I was finishing my world music degree at the University of Gothenburg and, as part of my thesis, I had to perform a graduation concert. That marked the beginning of my long-awaited desire to form a Latin jazz band. I gathered the musicians and launched the Manana quintet. Manana means “from the heart,” a Cuban expression used when someone plays with feeling and passion.
After the exam, we continued performing at various events, bars, and restaurants.
With two original compositions and other reinterpreted jazz standards, the band plans to record its first album soon.
